Weed&Feed #2

This Wednesday we had another Weed&Feed volunteer day. It was a huge success! We snacked on carrots and dip while harvesting green beans, planting broccoli, and tying up vines. It was a wonderful day in the garden, despite the hot weather!

The Fame

Today we had a South Bend Tribune reporter come out to the Garden! It rained while she was given a tour of the produce, and it poured whilst we picked lettuce. Luckily the photographer and the reporter both brought umbrellas. So we continued our process of making a salad and went to the kitchen. There, two Assistant Chefs washed and tore the lettuce and added a few more varieties to create a salad! There will be an article in the South Bend Tribune tomorrow.

It's business time!

Recently, the Garden has been visited by a variety of volunteers! We had people from the Unity Gardens volunteer today, grooming flowers (seen in upper left). Yesterday, a few people came out for a Wednesday Weed & Feed, where they weeded the garden and lay down mulch while munching on fresh veggies! The lowest picture shows some bean seedlings, recently spotted sprouting. It's been a very busy week in the Garden!

Volunteers

We had a group of volunteers come out to the garden last Thursday. We thinned lettuce, as well as planted cantaloupe and mustard greens. It will be exciting to see these new plants flourish!

Rain yet again!

Yesterday it rained quite a bit. So, as you can imagine, not many people visited the garden. Luckily, the rain yielded baby watermelon today! Unfortunately it also brought a vast array of weeds that need to be picked! It would be great if volunteers would come out to weed in the next couple of days! Also, our strawberries are seemingly on a conquest to conquer the patches around them. They need to be tamed. It's been lovely in the garden, as always!

The More the Merrier!

We had many volunteers come to the Garden today! A family joined us in the afternoon. We planted a variety of bush beans! Also, there was a group of college students who volunteered later today. They were all extremely helpful! We accomplished a great deal today because of the ample help in the Garden!

Good Morning

The Garden has been busy lately. Many people have been visiting the Garden to volunteer, harvest, and relax! It's great to see this beautiful space being utilized. There will also be pictures on the blog within the next few days. The garden is looking good, and hopefully its beauty can bring light to the blog! A volunteer group is coming tomorrow, and we are looking forward to their help!
Feel free to stop by sometime, as always!

Girl Scouts Galore!

Yesterday we had some amazing visitors come out to the Garden. A few Girl Scouts arrived with marigolds in tow. From 10 to 12 they then proceeded to plant their marigolds throughout the garden to help repel rabbits. Marigolds are known for being useful in gardens, and it was a pleasure having the Girl Scouts' help!

Good Morning Sunshine!

Today was a great day for gardening! There were many visitors coming in and out of the garden, and it's not mystery as to why. The sunny atmosphere in the garden created a great atmosphere for socializing! Overall, the garden was simply effervescent!

Rain, Rain, Go Away

This morning's cloudy atmosphere was a warning that there would be rain today. Indeed, there was! People did manage to come in the morning to weed the Garden as well as deliver some peppers, but the afternoon hosted a lonely, rain-covered garden. No other news today! As always, anyone is welcome to come by the garden between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to harvest, eat, share, and help out!

First Post!--New Intern

Today at the garden, a new intern joined the team! Courtney Dodge is our newest volunteer and will be with us for the remainder of the summer. In other news, we took an inventory of our seeds today, and found out that we have over 200 tomato seeds! This is all the exciting news for today.
